Established
by the Navajo Nation Council, the Navajo Nation Archaeology Department
is the Nation's agency responsible for providing cultural resource services
(not compliance review) to project sponsors. These sponsors include
the Dine people, tribal government entities, other government agencies,
and industry in need of cultural resource services on lands of historical
Dine interest. The Department will fulfill these needs in accordance
with all applicable federal, tribal, and state laws and regulations.
In support of this mission we are committed to:
-
Protecting and conserving the Navajo Nation's cultural resources
and Dine cultural heritage in a manner consistent with Dine cultural
values, while also facilitating needed infrastructure growth and
development.
-
Becoming the leading provider of high quality, innovative, cultural
resource services on Navajo Nation lands and in surrounding areas
of traditional interest.
-
Forming and maintaining strategic working relationships with Dine
communities and project sponsors through diversified marketing,
and public outreach in a fashion that is both culturally sensitive
and scientifically valid.
-
Being responsive to the needs of the Dine people, our clients, and
partners by soliciting and considering public input, and through
providing reliable, timely professional service.
-
Maintaining the Department's national leadership in indigenous cultural
resource management by sustaining and improving the Student Training
Program, and continued placement of qualified Dine into management
positions.
-
Becoming self suffcient, thus allowing the Navajo Nation to maintain
its sovereign capability to manage its cultural resources and protect
Dine cultural heritage through the Department.
-
Providing a safe and respectful work environment that nurtures professional
interaction, job satisfaction, and the growth needs of our employees.
